5 Benefits of a PAPR System

5 Benefits of a PAPR System

SPI7/28/2023

A powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR) is a type of personal protective respiratory equipment designed to protect workers from breathing contaminated air. PAPRs, also known as blowers, usually feature the same four components: a hood (headtop), a powered fan, a filter, and a battery.

These respiratory protection systems are engineered to take contaminated air, remove a sufficient proportion of the hazard, and deliver clean air to the worker.

Did you know? Wearing inadequate respiratory protection is one of the top 5 most frequently cited OSHA violations.*

Personal respiratory protection systems (PAPR) can help workers tackle multiple workplace hazards at once.

These powered and supplied air respiratory systems offer comfortable and integrated protection for the head, face, eyes, and hearing. Its smart design allows workers to focus on the job, making them a PPE solution they’ll want to wear.

1. PAPRs offer easier breathing

Instead of using lung power to draw air through the filter, PAPR systems use a blower to allow you to breathe more naturally.

2. All-day comfort

Added comfort is ensured! You’ll feel a constant airflow in your headtop while working in hot and humid environments. A 3M PAPR delivers filtered air for improved protection and comfort all day long.

3. Integrated protection

PAPR systems combine respiratory, head, eye, and face protection. Its various components are designed to work together as a single unit to offer you customized, integrated protection for your work environment.

4. Reduced risk of eye injury

If you work in an environment where there are debris, sparks, or other hazards, you’ll love the integrated face shields featured on certain headtops from 3M PAPR systems. They’ll help protect your eyes and face while offering clarity and a wide field of vision to keep you out of harm’s way.

5. Facial hair? No problem!

Beards or facial hair can be a problem with some respiratory protection equipment since they’re known to compromise the seal of some facepieces.

PAPR systems with headtops are designed to accommodate limited facial hair, offering a simpler option for your employees.
