Outsourcing Company Extends Opportunity to Disabled Workers

SPI Employs Visually Impaired Medical Transcriptionists

Mysore, India (July 3, 2009) Earlier in the week, Inspinity, a wholly-owned subsidiary of offshore outsourcing business Software Paradigms International, (SPI) officially welcomed eleven visually impaired workers to its medical transcription team.

The effort marked the Atlanta IT and BPO firm's first step toward diversifying its workforce with the talents of special needs employees and was initiated through its Corporate Social Responsibility program, an effort through which employees give back to their community.

"This is exciting news for SPI and Inspinity, and it will be the first of many efforts geared toward recruiting disabled people with specialized strengths, such as listening," said Madhukar Venkataramiah, SVP of Operations in India. "We know that we have an opportunity that not all businesses have, and since our team is equipped and capable of bringing on visually impaired employees, we're honored that we're able to do so."

The new hires were inducted onto the Inspinity team following completion of an 18-month, onsite training, for which they qualified after earning degrees in Computer Applications through a three year program at JSS Polytechnic for the Physically Handicapped.

Since becoming officially employed with Inspinity, the transcriptionists have performed the same duties as other team members, but gain additional, visual assistance by utilizing JAWS (Job Access With Speech), a screen reader that provides users with access to information through interactive text-to-speech and Braille displays.

"We think that it's important that all companies recognize the ways that they can give back," said Inspinity and SPI CEO, Sid Mookerji. "Looking at what we do, we recognized that we have many listening-based positions and thought that medical transcription work could be a natural fit for people with visual impairments. We evaluated our internal conditions and capitalized on the situation. It's been a great move so far, and there will hopefully be many more of these initiatives in the future."
