Mysore, the world’s best destination for IT : CEO of SPI


America may be acclaimed as the land of opportunities for the capable and the competent professions. But Mysore would be the best destination for the IT industry, if, Mysore were to be in America, Mr. Sid Mookerji, Chief Executive Officer, Software Paradigms (India) (SPI), Mysore opined.

He was addressing the media persons on Mar 7, on the eve of inauguration of the second establishment of SPI in Gokulam here on Mar 8. Mr. K.K. Mookerji, Managing Director, Mrs. Chanda Mookerji, Director, Mrs. Sophie Mookerji, President, Mr. William Blackstone, Partner in the American part of the company’s business and the SPI team were present.

Mr. Sid Mookerji focused on the excellent infrastructure for engineering education and communication apart from proximity to Bangalore, the Silicon Valley of India, as the most appropriate basic requirements available in Mysore for being rated high as an IT destination. The only lacuna was the absence of airport in Mysore, he observed.

Mr. K.K. Mookerji traced the humble beginnings of SPI in 1997 and disclosed that the present complement of 90 IT professionals in the company would rise to 300 in times to come. He said that the success of the company inspite of global slowdown of IT industry was totally the outcome of the commitment of the staff to their work, 95 cent of whom belonged to Karnataka.

SPI was the only software enterprise in Mysore to have ISO 9001 certification, a gold standard for the quality of services offered by the industry.

In addition to serving the clients, and in-house research group would soon be in place at SPI, Mr. K.K. Mookerji disclosed.

A fully export-oriented company, Mr. Sid Mookerji explained, it had a turn over of more than Rs two crore for the Mysore setup and four billion US dollar for the enterprise in Atlanta, USA.

Chain stores, department stores, retail marketing units and porshe cars constituted SPI’s major clients, Mr. Sid Mookerji, disclosed, while answering questions by the media.


IT slowdown
He observed that the much talked about slow down in the IT industry was because of companies with unplanned growth programmes. The pace of other industries could be affected by IT, he opined.

Talking to Star of Mysore correspondent, Mr. Sid Mookerji said that pirated software menace was rampant in India. He disclosed that nearly 100 software personnel had moved abroad after gaining valuable work experience in SPI and had done well since.
